Lux Aeterna: Humans of Terra.

We continue the Lux Aeterna series by taking a look at the major human cultures of Terra, the main planet of the setting.  These include cultural options that human players can use in place of the standard human traits.

Bhed

The Bhed are the dominant ethnic group of the Gebler Dominion on the Ryu continent, an empire whose main edge is steam-based technology.  Bhed believe that they, under the leadership of their emperor, will dominate the world with their superior culture and technology.  Bhed are obsessed with technology and great status is placed on obtaining the newest inventions.  Their society has deep divides though, with lower levels of society eking a living by scrounging and repairing the cast-offs of upper society.  The Dominion is ruled by Emperor Gestahl VI from the capital of Vector.

The Kirlians live on a long continent composed of a string of islands of varying sizes known as the Moonglow.  They consist of a loose affiliation of distinct city-states unified by religious belief.  Though they venerate the eidolons of the immortal spirits like most races, they also engage in ancestor worship.  They believe that when people die, their souls return to the soul of Terra and become lucite.  Kirlians are a varied people, with skins ranging from deathly pale to the color of burnt wood.  Hair and eye colors are just as varied, even ranging into colors considered unnatural by other humans.  The Moonglow gets its name from the unusually numerous concentrations of auracite deposits and the strange etherflies that gather around such deposits, giving most places in it an faint otherworldly glow.  The nominal capital of the Kirlians is Samarkand, which houses the center for their faith.

Lucien

The Lucien people inhabit the Verdigri Coast and the edges of the Great Mirage Desert, northwest of the Moonglow.  An introspective people, they were the first Terrans to figure out and build airships based on what they saw of lunar trade ships.  Their language is seemingly unrelated to other human tongues on Terra, leading some to speculate that they are from another place like the lunars.  Lucien tends to have pale skin and dark hair.  Lucien goods are prized by other cultures for their quality of craftsmanship.  Their capital city, found near the Great Mirage Desert, is named Second Babylon.

Palmecian

Saying one is Palmecian is merely stating that you are a citizen of the Palmecia Empire, presently ruled by Emperor Mateus I.  It is a melting pot of cultures across most of the continent of Ur, and such has no one dominant culture aside from a sense of pride and unity from belonging to the empire.  The lingua franca of Terra itself is Palmecian in origin, known as Mecian.  The capital city of the empire is situated where the wide Thames River empties into the sea; Londinium.

  • Palmecians are considered standard humans as far as the rules are concerned.  Furthermore, Mecian is simply the in-setting name for Common.
