Lux Aeterna: Elves of Terra

Of course there are elves.  This is a rather short one as there isn't anything to work out mechanically.

Terran Elf

The elves of Terra are a long-lived species, with distinct cultures.  The Hyvaan elves occupy the Gagezot Mountains in the northeastern corner of the Ryu continent, contesting the Gebler Dominion for territory and resources.  The Silvaan elves form the nation of Alfir, south of the Palmecia Empire, which is a region of thick woods rife with dangerous animals and creatures.  Then there are the reclusive Vylvaan, twisted elves that long ago began to worship a fell entity known as Chaos.

The Hyvaan

Arguably the largest and most well-known of the elven cultures, the Hyvaan are known for their beautiful and ancient cities nestled in the Gagezot Mountains.  The long years of dealing with the expansionist Bhed have led to the Hyvaan possessing an impressive standing army of wizards and warriors.  Even though they value individuality like their Silvaan cousins, Hyvaan society places places more emphasis on personal discipline and being a good citizen than the more laissez-faire Silvaan culture.  This has only come about because of the recent (by elf reckoning; it has been 150 years) formation of the Gebler Dominion and its aggressive policies.  Although the Hyvaan have a hereditary nobility, its more martial bent means the military commanders typically hold more power, making it closer to a shogunate.

The Silvaan

Other races think the Silvaan are easily distracted, rash, and flighty.  But they mostly adhere to the idea that if one is likely to live nearly a thousand years that you might as well take your time in things that do not require expediency.  By the same token, when the Silvaan move to act, only their elders tend to act with something approaching careful thought.  The Silvaan are ruled by hereditary nobility, with Alfir's head of state known as a prince (or princess) rather than a king or queen.  Unlike the Gebler Dominion, the Palmecian Empire has no desire to conquer Alfir and has a fairly steady trading partner for the past two centuries.

The Vylvaan

Very little is known of the dark elves (as non-elves often call them).  There are apocryphal stories of ordinary Hyvaan or Silvaan becoming so warped by evil that they became a Vylvaan.  The only story that seems to have any basis in facts is the story of a Silvaan prince and his brother.  The brother became so twisted by jealous that he laid a curse on his brother and was transformed by the spiteful act. There doesn't seem to be any sort of Vylvaan culture or civilization to the knowledge of the elves or other Terrans.

Elf Traits

Use the standard Elf traits from the Player's handbook.  Hyvaan use the High Elf subrace traits and Silvaan use the Wood Elf subrace traits. The Vylvaan will be more properly covered in a monster article.
